March

March 21nd and 23rd.

Beach Tournament & Head-to-Head (H2H)

at Hermosa Beach, CA

FRIDAY - STARTING AT DUSK

We've expanded the tournament to include Friday, (March 21st) evening, starting near dusk.  We'll hold a GLORP game followed by some night throwing.

SATURDAY - 8:30 am to DUSK

Saturday will be the bulk of our events with all the H2H events happening. We will be doing the events in the following order:

Speed Accuracy (Spaccuracy)
MTA
Fast-Catch
Trick-Catch
Aussie Round

Each event will last about an hour and we will be incorporating some teaching time in-between events for the viewing public. We should get a lot of spectators watching the H2H action and then teach any of those who are willing to learn the basics of throwing.

The list of throwers is growing with most of the top US competitors making the trip. We want to make this tournament interesting to watch and fun for the competitors. We will have an intermediate division and an Advanced division.

SUNDAY - 8:30 AM TO NOONISH, 1:00, 2:00??

Sunday, we will do some team events and Gel Games.

There is ample parking, public bathrooms (less that 50m from the throwing site), a multitude of restaurants and public attractions no more than a couple hundred yards away. We will be in the heart of
Hermosa Beach.

Stay Tuned and Stay Rad,
Morri

Remember: LAX is a stones throw from us and we can house a bunch of throwers so don't hesitate to ask. We can arrange to pick you up from the airport too, not a problem at all!!!

21st Annual St. Louis Gateway Classic Boomerang Tournament

1988 – 2008:  20 Years of Competition in St. Louis

Twenty years?  Yep, seems like only yesterday that Tom Fitzgerald hatched a harebrained scheme to host tournaments in St. Louis.  In the 1980’s, we were sponsored by the St. Louis Science Center and threw in Forest Park.  For a couple of glory years in the 1990’s, Tom merged the tournament with the St. Louis Australian Festival to form a carnival atmosphere at the tournament.  Through the Australian embassy in Washington DC, Tom brought over bands, world-famous didgeridoo players, and other entertainers from Australia.  Competitors threw to the sound of live music while street performers did their thing amongst the circles.  We held the Nationals here in 1990 and the World Boomerang Championships here in 1998.

In 2008, boomerang throwing is still going strong in St. Louis.  The 21st Annual St. Louis Gateway Classic Boomerang Tournament will take place May 25th.  That’s the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend.  I don’t have all of the details finalized yet, but I would like to hold the tournament in Waterloo, IL, as I have done the past couple of years.  As usual, we’ll be out on the field practicing and painting on Saturday, followed by a Saturday evening BBQ at my house, also in Waterloo.  Sunday will be the tourney, followed by an awards dinner either at a local eatery or back at my place.  Monday is open for whatever strikes your fancy.

We’ll run the usual six USBA events, and hopefully have time for GLORP or something fun at the end.  The St. Louis tournament is typically a pretty laid-back affair, geared toward helping the rookies and fun for all.  Of course, a few big shots usually show up and actually try to win, so there is good competition throwing as well!  As always, everyone gets at least one trophy!

So, start making your plans to be here for a weekend of fun!  There’s a Super 8 Motel in Waterloo, so that’s you’re best bet if you’re from out of town.  If you’re planning on coming, please shoot me an email or give me a buzz so I can prepare.  Thanks!
