We had a lot of rain today. But we had even more fun!!!
We had an on-field Welcome and Opening time. The teams greeted each other with a traditional mass high-five line. Check out the video highlighting the US Youth Boomerang Team leading a section of the line! And perhaps a new tradition: the presentation of the youngest thrower (Seth Lemay age 7) and the oldest thrower (Bill Hirsch age 69) to make the opening throws of the tournament.
We threw four events today: Endurance Relay, 30-meter relay, Australian Round, and Supercatch. Rachel (12) and Christian (18) threw in all four events. Cam ( and Seth (7) threw in the events that they could.
Caden (18) from Seattle and Julie (14) and Chloe () from France helped augment the US Youth Boomerang team to enable the team to throw in every event today when Cam And Set we’re not able to go. A huge shoutout to these new and helpful members of the team. They come to the table with a strong desire to help grow the sport, to encourage the US Kids, and to help in any way they can.
Some highlights for Rachel include:
– First World Cup catch in endurance relay (1st event).
– Four qualifying throws (greater than 30 meters) in 30-meter relay (no short-range calls).
– a new personal best in Aussie Round (I think her scores were 7,0,3,3,14= 27) [thrown in increasing rain with her best and let throw in a deluge.
– successfully navigating Supercatch. This is possibly the most complicated event in World Cup play. Navigating it and surviving it is a huge accomplishment.
The RADline team (USA1) got off to a slow start with a 5th place in Endurance Relay. But then we settled in and got rolling with a 1st place in 30-meter relay (my event for the day), 1st place in Aussie around, and 2nd place in Supercatch.
We ended the day in first place with 9 placing points. Boomergang (International) and Burning Men (France 1) second and third with 11 and 14 points respectively. BRrangs (Brazille) and Vintage Rad (USA2) round out the top five at 16 and 18 points.
